Thursday Morning Fly By: Welcome, new New Guy

*GMDB went out and made another depth signing, taking another flyer (get it) on a guy that people once thought would be something pretty good but ultimately petered out. Not a bad way to approach the need for warm bodies. [BSH]

*We also saw a new contract for Ronnie Attard come to fruition. That’s good news. [NBC Sports Philly]

*In other contract news, yesterday was the deadline to file for arbitration and Noah Cates elected to do just that. [NHLPA]

*Development Camp continues through tonight’s scrimmage, and 22nd overall pick Oliver Bonk is enjoying his first taste of what playing with NHL talent feels like. [Inquirer]

*Let’s talk about those FA signings made in the last few days, specifically Garnet Hathaway and Marc Staal. Is it possible that these additions will pay dividends for the Flyers farther down the line? [BSH]

*Speaking of Staal, he and Ryan Poehling met with the media yesterday and offered an explanation as to why the Flyers were an attractive landing spot for them right now. [Inquirer]

*There have been a number of terrible contracts signed so far during this free agency period and the Flyers signed ZERO of them. You love to see it. [The Athletic]

*And finally, are you thinking about the 2024 entry draft? No, of course not, you aren’t a weirdo. But some folks are, and just to make you nuts, they have the Flyers drafting 7th again. [The Athletic]
