World Junior hockey 2014: Scott Laughton, Taylor Leier named to Canada’s camp roster

Scott Laughton is really, really good. He’ll get a chance to be really, really good at the World Junior Championship later this month in Sweden, as he’s been named to Canada’s camp roster and is basically a lock for the team.

There’s even a chance that Laughton, who wears the ‘C’ on his chest for the OHL’s Oshawa Generals, could be the captain of Team Canada at the WJC.

Portland Winter Hawks forward Taylor Leier is less of a lock for the team, but he’s one of 15 forwards to be named to the camp roster. Both Laughton and Leier were selected in the 2012 draft and were born in 1994. Here’s the full camp roster via TSN.

Canada hasn’t won the tournament since 2009, and they didn’t even medal last year. The Americans, meanwhile, have won gold twice since 2010.

London Knights goaltender Anthony Stolarz and Union College defensemen Shayne Gostisbehere edit: forgot that he’s too old, both Flyers prospects, will likely represent Team USA at the World Juniors. The greatest country on the face of the earth will announce its camp roster on Wednesday morning.
