So, I already have September 20 marked on my calendar. That’s the fourth day of the 2016 World Cup of Hockey, and it’ll feature an ESPN doubleheader that starts with Finland vs. Sweden at 3 p.m. ET and Canada vs. the USA at 8 p.m. ET.
We learned the full broadcast schedule today from ESPN for the 2016 World Cup, which begins Saturday, Sept. 17 in Toronto. In total, nine games will be on ESPN 2, seven games will be on ESPN and one game will be on ESPN News. All games will also be streamed via the WatchESPN app.

Eight Flyers players will participate in the World Cup. Claude Giroux is on Team Canada, Shayne Gostisbehere and Sean Couturier are on the under-23 Team North America, Mark Streit and Pierre-Edouard Bellemare are on Team Europe, and Jakub Voracek, Radko Gudas and Michal Neuvirth will represent the Czech Republic.
Group A includes Canada, the Czech Republic, the USA and Team Europe. Group B includes Finland, Sweden, Russia and Team North America. The top teams in each group will advances to the semifinals, and the final round is a best-of-three.
Steve Levy and Barry Melrose are ESPN’s broadcast team for all Team USA games, plus the semifinals and finals. John Buccigross and Kevin Weekes will call other games. Brett Hull and Chris Chelios will serve as studio analysts with hosts John Saunders, Adnan Virk and Buccigross, while Leah Hextall — the cousin of Flyers GM Ron — will serve as an ice-level reporter.
