Winter Olympics 2014: Gold medal game discussion thread

Team USA saw its Olympic run, which started out as so entertaining and so fun, come to an abrupt halt over the past two days. It was punctuated by an embarrassing 5-0 loss to Finland yesterday in the bronze medal game, as you likely know by now. It’s a shame, and whether you think it’s because they weren’t as good as Canada and Finland or you think they were outcoached or you think they couldn’t handle adversity or whatever, it was really just depressing to watch.

But it’s not all bad, I suppose. We can stop pretending to like guys like Ryan Callahan and Patrick Kane and Dan Bylsma now. And a big-time congratulations to our very own Kimmo Timonen, who with yesterday’s win picked up his fourth career Olympic medal — becoming just the seventh hockey player to do so. You could tell from post-game pictures and interviews how much it means to him, and with all he’s done in his career, it’s impossible to not be happy for him.

In any event, thanks for the run, boys. Let’s do better next time. Hopefully, still with NHL players.
