PHILADELPHIA — It was a yawner for just about all 60 minutes, but at the end of the night, the Flyers came out on top with another two points. It’s really starting to become the norm this season, isn’t it? They win tight games, they win boring games, they win blowouts, they win exhilarating games. And now, they’ve won nine straight games against the Carolina Hurricanes, just part of a 15-0-3 stretch against the Canes.

After two scoreless periods, something the Flyers haven’t experienced since February 4th of last year, Jeff Carter opened the scoring with a power play tally 18 seconds into the third. Danny Briere, who’s battling a cold, roofed a gorgeous pass from Claude Giroux about 11 minutes later to expand the lead to 2-0.

So at that point, were the Flyers thinking shutout?

“Maybe it crossed my mind for a second,” Boucher said. “But I only had a second because that’s when they scored. Maybe somebody up in the press box jinxed me. Chuck?” Tim Panaccio of CSN and Chuck Gormley of the Courier-Post did indeed say the s-word tonight during the game, so direct your scorn properly.

Tuomo Ruutu scored less than a minute after Briere’s tally to end those hopes, but the Flyers were able to hold on for yet another victory against a hungry Hurricanes team.

It was an interesting night for Giroux. In addition to his gorgeous assist in the third, he took a stick to the ribs from Chad LaRose early in the second. After an injury scare later in the period when he took a puck off the left knee, he returned to the ice for the remainder of the game. As time expired in the period, he obliterated LaRose along the boards, shouting something at him as he skated away. Ahh, payback.
