The Flyers rookies are in Arlington, Va. this Monday to take on the Capitals rookies in the sixth annual rookie game. The puck drops at 3 p.m. and you can watch it via the Flyers website by clicking right here.
The Flyers have never won this game in the D.C. area, losing 7-0 in 2008 and 4-3 in 2010, both at Kettler Capitals Iceplex. They are coming off a win in the last rookie game, held at the Wells Fargo Center in 2011. The 2012 game was canceled due to the NHL lockout.
Today’s game closes the Flyers four-day-long rookie camp. 2013 first round draft pick Samuel Morin will pull on an orange and black sweater in a game setting for the first time, as will goalie prospect Anthony Stolarz. Other players such as potential 2013 Flyers regular Scott Laughton and top prospect Nick Cousins will be in the lineup as well.
Caps head coach Adam Oates doesn’t want to see much fighting in the game, but I’d assume that 2013 draft pick Tyrell Goulbourne doesn’t really care for Oates’ wishes. Here’s the full roster, via the Flyers:
Forwards: Scott Laughton (21), Andrew Johnston (46), Marcel Noebels (47), Petr Straka (51), Taylor Leier (58), Kyle Flanagan (59), Nick Cousins (52), Tyrell Goulbourne (53), Matt Mangene (54), Tyler Brown (56), Derek Mathers (57), Brandon Alderson (64).
Defensemen: Matthew Konan (34), Mark Alt (39), Maxim Lamarche (50), Samuel Morin (55), Mark Nemec (70), Jared Hauf (71).
Goaltenders: Anthony Stolarz (49), Carsen Chubak (67).
Peter Laviolette will be behind the bench for the Flyers. Paul Holmgren will be in attendance. Join us for our first game discussion thread of the season below!
