The first tallies of All-Star voting came out this afternoon and there’s a surprise result towards the top of the goalie leaderboard. Sergei Bobrovsky is currently ranked second in All-Star voting for goaltenders with 58,101 votes, according to this count. That puts him about 13,000 votes behind the leader, Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens.
Bob leads his nearest follower, Tim Thomas of the Bruins, by about 11,000 votes. Only the top ranked goaltender in fan voting will make it to Raleigh. Go figure. Do we have what it takes to push Bob over the top? Neither player is on the ballot, so if Price has a bad game or two, we know that the Habs fans will turn on him faster than Usain Bolt. We can do this. The Price is wrong.
In other All-Star Voting news, Chris Pronger is just 2,720 votes behind a guaranteed spot in the All-Star Game. The top two defensemen make the team and Pronger is currently ranked third with 78,003 votes. Ahead of him are Nicklas Lidstrom and Duncan Keith.
Other Flyers on the leaderboard include Kimmo Timonen (5th among defensemen and ahead of Mike Green, woo), Mike Richards (6th), Claude Giroux (11th), Danny Briere (12th) and Jeff Carter (17th). The top three forwards automatically make the team.
