In 2006-07 the Philadelphia Flyers went 22-48-12, that’s right, 22-60. Good enough for 56 points in the standings. Dead last in the division, conference and league. Eleven points behind the second-to-last place Phoenix freakin’ Coyotes.
It is going to be tough for Philly’s current group of whippersnappers to match the Herculean levels of ineptitude of that group, but damn if they aren’t going to give it everything they have.
Sure, they’ve already amassed 15 wins and 36 points, and currently sit one point ahead of the last place Ottawa Senators, but with their eighth consecutive loss and only one win in their last ten games, the orange and black are poised to make a late season surge at that 2006-07 team’s franchise record .371 points-percentage.
This is just about all the drama remaining in the 2018-19 season, a completely lost affair that has seen the Flyers now tie a league record with their seventh starting goaltender.
In case you care, Philadelphia lost to the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, 5-3, and it really wasn’t that close. Recent waiver wire pickup Mike McKenna stopped 20 of 24 shots. Tom Wilson scored a goal. Jakub Vrana picked up the first three-point regular season game of his career. That’s it. That’s all that happened.
