Steve Mason injured during Flyers practice Friday

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Steve Mason went down during practice on Friday morning and needed help getting off the ice. It’s a weird situation and nobody really seems to know just yet what happened to Mason. But it does seem at least relatively serious.

Mason has been one of the Flyers best players this year, compiling a .921 save percentage to date, and his loss would be a very big one for this team. Ray Emery is a capable backup goaltender but carrying the load long-term could be an issue for him. (Especially the way this extremely mediocre Flyers team would need him to carry that load.)

The Flyers are scheduled to leave for their impending road trip later this afternoon, and they play in Toronto on Saturday night. If Mason can’t travel or play, the Flyers could call up either young gun Anthony Stolarz or veteran Rob Zepp from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
