The Philadelphia Flyers finally got back on the winning side with a statement win over the Vegas Golden Knights on Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
Philly opened up a 5-0 lead on the Knights through 40 minutes, getting contributions from all over the lineup to take out of of the best teams in the Western Conference. Michael Raffl (2 goals, 1 assist), Travis Konecny (1 goal, 1 assist), and Oskar Lindblom (1 goal, 1 assist) lead the way for the orange and black with multi-point games. Justin Braun, Robert Hagg, Claude Giroux, James van Riemsdyk and the debuting Joel Farabee were the only Flyers held without a point on the evening.
While Farabee was kept off the scoresheet, he looked like he belonged in his first regular season NHL action. The 2018 first round pick played 14:35, recorded 3 shots on goal, another attempt that missed the net and one hit in the 6-2 victory.
But the star of the night, despite the offensive outburst, was Brian Elliott. BAMFBE made 33 saves on the night and shutout Vegas for the first 43:15 of the game to contain an offense that came in averaging nearly four goals per game. The Flyers’ skaters did what they were supposed to, lighting up Oscar Dansk, who hasn’t made an NHL start since October 27, 2017, but Vegas had plenty of chances of their own and Elliott had the answer.
