Shayne Gostisbehere to make NHL debut tomorrow against Red Wings

It’s official — Shayne Gostisbehere has been recalled to the Flyers, and is slated to make his NHL debut tomorrow night.

Earlier this evening we heard news that Gostisbehere had been designated a healthy scratch for the Phantoms tonight as they take on the Hershey Bears. That justifiably fueled some speculation that the move was intended to get him down to Philadelphia in order to replace the holes left by the Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald injuries.

Well, speculate no more. Shayne Gostisbehere will be suiting up for the Flyers.

We’re all a tad excited about this, even if it means we’re throwing that whole “wait for the young guys to develop” thing under the bus. But, as Dave Strehle notes, Hextall has acknowledged that sometimes adjustments will need to be made to that plan:

Of course, Gostisbehere being recalled raises a few questions. Namely,

  • Who will he be paired with, and who should he be paired with?
  • Is Berube going to throw him into the NHL by giving him tough minutes, or will the transition come slowly?
  • Will Gostibehere’s stellar play from the preseason carry on into the regular season?
  • And if he ends up being great, who ends up taking a seat when Coburn and MacDonald return?/

We’ll have to wait and see for the answers to those questions, but for now, let us know what you think in the comments.
