If Shayne Gostisbehere was a month away from ending rehab on his torn ACL just 33 days after suffering the injury, he would be a freak of nature. We’re pretty sure he is actually a freak of nature based on what he’s been able to do on a hockey rink so far in his life, but …. well, he’s not that freaky.
That was the report earlier this afternoon, but as expected, Ron Hextall gave an in-depth update on Ghost’s status, saying that one month after his surgery, the doctors are happy with his progress. He’s still expected to be out for a while.
Below is Hextall’s full Q&A with the media about Ghost.
Hextall: Ghost saw the doctor tonight and he is right on schedule. He is a month post-surgery and he’s doing well. He’s right exactly where the doc hoped he’d be.
Reporter: Is there a timetable?
“I’m not sure about that. He’s a long ways from playing yet. But he’s right on schedule. I know the doc was really happy with where he’s at.”
He said he felt great tonight. He said he’s a month away. Sounds optimistic.
“No. He said he’s a month post-surgery.”
Who?
“Ghost.”
That’s not what he said to me.
“Actually I talked to him about your conversation. And he said what I told him is that ‘I’m a month post surgery.’ That’s what he said. I don’t know whether he said it wrong or you misunderstood. But it’s clear the lines of communication were not good. A serious breakdown.”
