We’ve heard about an unknown Eastern Conference team offering unrestricted free agent Shane Doan a four-year, $30 million contract. It appears as though perhaps that’s gone to his head. According to David Shoalts at the Globe & Mail, Doan wants just that much should he venture away from the nest and sign with a team not named the Phoenix Coyotes.
Doan wants exactly that same deal, which comes with a $7.5 million cap hit, according to Shoalts. His chief option still remains to stay in Phoenix, but after he meets with prospective Coyotes owner Greg Jamison today, he’s going to determine how he feels about the chances of the team staying in Arizona. Without a satisfactory answer, he’s moving on and it seems likely he’ll sign with some club as soon as next week.
If it’s going to be for $7.5 million per year, that club better not be the Philadelphia Flyers.
