Sean Couturier out vs. Penguins with ‘lower body injury’; Jordan Weal may debut

Sean Couturier is day-to-day with what the Flyers are calling a lower-body injury and he’ll miss Thursday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. We thought he had an upper-body injury — he was reportedly seen getting an examination on his jaw — but who the hell knows.

In any event, it’s a big blow to the Flyers chances tonight: Couturier plays some of his best hockey against Pittsburgh, and he’s been known to frustrate both Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby with his Selke Trophy-caliber defensive play.

In fact, he frustrates Pittsburgh so much that Penguins fans would like to see him murdered. Seriously.

Jordan Weal will probably make his Flyers debut in Couturier’s place, although Dave Hakstol says he could go with seven defensemen instead. Weal hasn’t played since being acquired from the Kings back on January 7 in the Vincent Lecavalier and Luke Schenn trade. Here’s what we know about Weal’s game.
