Ryan White to avoid supplemental discipline for his hit on Tomas Jurco, per report

Flyers forward Ryan White will apparently not be subject to additional discipline for his hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Jurco, according to a report from the Inquirer‘s Sam Carchidi.

The hit, which occurred just 2:20 into Sunday night’s game, took Jurco out for a few minutes before he returned about halfway through the first period. White was assessed a match penalty for the hit, meaning his actions were automatically subject to a review from the league. If Carchidi’s report is correct (the Department of Player Safety has not yet commented on the hit), then this would indicate the league’s review did not find the hit to be worthy of extra discipline beyond the match penalty and five-minute major assessed on the ice.

At first glance to some, the hit appeared to be questionable in a couple of areas — namely, whether or not it was late and whether or not White made contact with Jurco’s head first and foremost. But the hit was likely close enough to Jurco’s release of the puck that it was not deemed late, and it’s possible that the league viewed the contact with the head as the product of an otherwise-legal body check.

As such, White will get off without any additional penalties for this one, and will be available to Dave Hakstol and the Flyers on Tuesday night against Toronto.
