The Lehigh Valley Phantoms were the fourth-best team in the American Hockey League in 2016-17, and as they enter the playoffs, it’s possible that they’re getting even better.
As the team gathered today for their first practice in the run-up to Friday’s playoff opener, news broke that junior defenseman Philippe Myers will join the team for the postseason.
Scott Gordon said that Phil Myers is expected to join Phantoms. Juniors season done for the big righty shooting D-Man. Unsure exact arrival.

Myers, who ranked 8th in our midseason ranking of the Flyers’ Top 25 Under 25, has seen a rapid ascent in his stock over the last two seasons. From an undrafted free agent to what TSN’s Bob McKenzie calls “NHL ready” in just two years, Myers will hopefully get some AHL action this season before possibly competing for a job on the Flyers blueline in September.
But will Myers play? The Phantoms blueline is already stacked with guys who have been on the team all year. Samuel Morin, Travis Sanheim, Robert Hagg, T.J. Brennan and Mark Alt are all locks to play. Veteran defenseman Will O’Neill is unfortunately injured, leaving one available spot on the defense open for Reece Willcox, Maxim Lamarche, Mark Friedman or Myers.
We’ll see what happens, but at the very least, the Phantoms have plenty of depth as they enter this Atlantic Division Semifinal series with the Hershey Bears on Friday.
