PITTSBURGH — We’re on one side of the state for the NHL Draft tonight, and in two years from now, we’ll be back home on the other side of the state. The NHL announced today that the Philadelphia Flyers, Comcast-Spectacor and the Wells Fargo Center have been chosen to host the 2014 NHL Draft. It will be the first draft held in Philly.
2014 should be a big year for hockey in town. Not only will the draft be in town in June, the WFC will host the NCAA Frozen Four in early April. Maybe we’ll be hosting the Stanley Cup Final again, too?
“We are truly excited to host the 2014 National Hockey League Entry Draft at the Wells Fargo Center,” said Comcast-Spectacor President Peter Luukko.
“This is further testament that Philadelphia truly is a hockey town. We just hosted a wonderful Winter Classic last season and, in addition to hosting the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, we soon will be preparing to also host the 2014 NCAA Frozen Four at Wells Fargo Center. What a thrill for not just hockey fans in our region, but for the entire City of Philadelphia. We would like to thank the NHL for selecting Philadelphia as the host city for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.”
Somebody should tell Luukko that it’s just “NHL Draft” now, not “NHL Entry Draft.” But nonetheless, we agree: Pretty exciting. These events are awesome and it will be great to see one on home turf.
The league also announced that the 2013 draft has been awarded to the New Jersey Devils.
