Philadelphia Flyers make 20 more cuts, reduce camp roster down to 35

A few hours after announcing the return to juniors of Ivan Provorov, Travis Sanheim, and Travis Konecny, Ron Hextall and the Flyers made those moves official, while at the same time cutting 20 other players from their training camp roster. Those names are as follows.

Sent to Lehigh Valley Phantoms camp:

Brandon Alderson

Mark Alt

Cole Bardreau

Tyrell Goulbourne

Connor Knapp*

Maxim Lamarche

Taylor Leier

Nick Luukko*

Danick Martel

Derek Mathers

Sam Morin

Martin Ouellette*

Pavel Padakin*

Michael Parks*

Jesper Pettersson

Logan Pyett*

Jay Rosehill*

Anthony Stolarz

Petr Straka

(Players with asterisks are on AHL-only deals.)

Sent to their respective junior teams:

Radel Fazleev

Travis Konecny

Ivan Provorov

Travis Sanheim

None of the cuts today come as particularly big surprises. Of the names heading to Lehigh Valley, the most noteworthy one is likely Morin, but as we noted last weekend, it’s not surprising that the team wants him to get some professional experience before being getting NHL time.

This leaves 35 players left on the team’s roster. Other than maybe young Swiss defenseman Christian Marti, the list of players remaining is more or less as one would expect. (Update: Per Tony Androckitis of The Home News, Marti has likely not been waived because he is injured and the team can’t waive him yet.) The team will have 12 more cuts to make between now and the start of the regular season.

The Flyers pick the preseason back up with their slimmed-down roster on Friday evening against the Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center.
