McDonald, 33, scored 8 goals and put up another 17 assists for a total of 25 points this past season has played in close to 200 games as a member of the Phantoms, regular season and playoff games combined. While the 25-goal scoring version of McDonald might not return, his physical play wreaks havoc on opposing defensemen and he’s been the Phantoms leader for quite some time now.
In the same release, the Phantoms announced that they had also signed David Drake to a 1-year AHL contract. Drake, 23, made his AHL debut last season on a tryout contract, playing in seven regular season games and one playoff game. The 6’6” defenseman was the Flyers’ 7th round selection in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. This will be Drake’s first professional season. In his seven regular season games, Drake picked up two assists and had a plus-1 rating.
