Pensburgh’s charity pledge drive

So the gang over at Pensburgh are promoting a really, really cool idea for the month of February: they’re hosting a pledge drive to make a donation that will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation.

Via Mike Darnay:

What we decided to do was to accept pledges for donations based on what happens in certain Pens games, as well as the Olympics. It’s a fun way to make donating a little bit more vested and interactive. Our pledge drive will end after the Stadium Series game vs. the Blackhawks on March 1st.

More:

Make it random, make it fun! Pledge for your country. Pledge for your favorite player. Pledge hits for PK Subban for Canada. Pledge goals for Patrick Kane and Phil Kessel or saves for Ryan Miller for USA. Pledge for Olli Maatta and Jussi Jokinen for Finland. Pledge for Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz for Canada because they’re going to be dynamite! Pledge for first-time Olympians Anze Kopitar for Slovenia, Zemgus Girgensons for Latvia, Valeri Nichushkin for Russia! Pledge for Henrik Lundqvist, Erik Karlsson, Oliver Ekman-Larsson for Sweden, Mats Zuccarello for Norway, Evgeni Malkin for Russia, Martin Hanzal for Czech Republic. Pledge whatever you’d like and have fun with it (based on anything that can be quantified)!

As a Flyers fan, you have some pretty neat potential options for pledging. Â You can go all out and pledge a certain amount for every game the Penguins lose (!), or you could show some support for the Flyers‘ Olympians heading overseas to Sochi. Â You could even pledge a certain amount for every laughable goal that Marc-Andre Fleury happens to allow (so, every single one of them.)

I’ll be making a donation for every goal Mark Streit scores for Switzerland and every point Kimmo Timonen scores for Finland over the duration of the Olympics. Â I guess I’ve got a thing for dashing offensive-defensemen.

Here’s an example of what a pledge would look like:

And here’s the link to the drive’s official spreadsheet.

Note: The spreadsheet has tabs at the bottom –

At the end of the final game (the Penguins’ Stadium Series game vs. the Chicago Blackhawks on March 1), Mike will send out emails to everyone regarding the payment process; that process will be handled through Paypal.  If you don’t have a Paypal account, but would like to donate, you can get in touch with Broad Street Hockey or myself; I’ll be making a payment when all is said and done.

More information can be found in the original Pensburgh post.

Oh, and there’s even prizes! Â Let’s get involved, everybody. Â Go Flyers.
