Nicklas Grossmann may not be in the lineup right now, but that’s not having an impact on his long-term future with the Philadelphia Flyers. The team announced late Friday that Grossmann has signed a long-term deal with the club. The exact term and financial information were not disclosed.
The Flyers picked up Grossmann prior to the NHL trade deadline in February, and he was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He’s turned into a shut-down defender alongside Braydon Coburn in his brief time here, playing against such foes as Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin.
It’s tough to judge this signing without knowing the exact term and the financial hit, just as it’s tough to gauge how much this could affect negotiations with Matt Carle, who’s still set to become a UFA this summer.
In other news late Friday, Harry Zolnierczyk was recalled from the Phantoms. Sounds like the Flyers are resting players after all.
