Nick Cousins will be with the Flyers for another season. The team announced today that Cousins, who was a restricted free agent, has accepted his qualifying offer with the club. He will remain an RFA when the one-year contract expires next summer.
Due to CBA rules, that qualifying offer was 105 percent of his salary last year, and therefore he’ll earn a salary of $937,125 this season. (The Flyers could have offered him up to $1 million, but it’s unlikely that they offered any more than the minimum.)
The contract is a two-way deal since Cousins did not play in 60 or more games in the NHL last season. The third-round pick in the 2011 draft played in all six playoff games with the Flyers last season and definitely has a chance to be on the team come October, even with a lot of competition for bottom-six jobs in camp.
