NHL Trade Deadline 2012: Sharks offer Antti Niemi for James van Riemsdyk

The Flyers already pay their goalies more money than any other team in the NHL, but they’re clearly not exactly getting the best bang for that buck right now. So, the San Jose Sharks are trying to help them out. Or something.

According to TSN, Sharks general manager Doug Wilson is big on Flyers forward James van Riemsdyk, and he’s offered goaltender Antti Niemi for him. (Not sure if that’s on its own or as part of a package.) It’s a nice try by Wilson, but Holmgren doesn’t really have a choice here: He made the investment in Bryzgalov and has to run with it now.

There are plenty of teams interested in van Riemsdyk, but it seems pretty clear that the Flyers aren’t going to let him go easily.
