NHL sets times for Expansion Draft selections, protected list announcements

We’ve been hypothesizing all summer about which Flyers players will be protected in the league’s expansion draft. On Monday night, we learned exactly when we’ll know.

“We’ve reached an agreement with the Players’ Association to broaden the window in which the Expansion Draft will take place,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said. “[Vegas] will get the available and protected lists as of 10 a.m., Eastern time on Sunday, the 18th of June, and they’ll have until Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. to submit those. They have a 72-hour window instead after 48-hour window.”

Let’s wildly speculate about the NHL expansion draft, the Flyers, and possible trades

NHL expansion 2017: Who would the Flyers be most likely to lose to Vegas?

The NHL will make public the protected lists for each team at that same time — 10 a.m. ET on Sunday, June 18. That’s Father’s Day, so you can interrupt your brunch with news that Pierre-Edouard Bellemare has indeed been protected, or whatever.

Las Vegas will then have 72 hours to make their picks in private. Their selections will be announced publicly on the evening of Wednesday, June 21 at the NHL Awards and Expansion Draft show at T-Mobile Arena, the new home of the Golden Knights.

BSH will be at the expansion draft providing live coverage. Should be fun.
