Ron Hextall keeps saying that Craig Berube is safe and that the Flyers‘ current woes are on the players, not the coach. But don’t tell the oddsmakers that. Bovada has come out with their most recent odds regarding which NHL coach will be next to get fired, one day after the Maple Leafs gave Randy Carlyle the boot, and it’s a glum look for Berube.

Personally, I’d bet against these odds if I were in Vegas tomorrow. I don’t think Berube is getting fired any time in the immediate future, or even before the NHL season ends — unless a candidate Ron Hextall really loves suddenly becomes available.
If Hextall fires Berube, it’s going to be a calculated decision, not a hasty in-season one. Besides, firing Berube won’t help this team make the playoffs this year. He’s made some questionable decisions and there are things he could be doing better, but the problems the Flyers face are not on him.
I’d take those odds on Mike Yeo, though. He lit into his Minnesota team on Wednesday morning during practice and ultimately skated off the ice in disgust, leaving his team to practice by themselves — a safe sign that things really aren’t going well up there and he might be feeling the heat. The Wild are 11th in the Western Conference and a solid six points out of the final wild card spot out west.
Win $7 for every $2 you bet against Yeo? Yeah, I’ll take that at this point.
