Monday Morning Fly By: Well, long summers are nice too

*Well, they gave it a nice shot. Too little too late and all that, the Flyers are still technically in the playoff hunt but the number of what-ifs that have to go our way is too much to overcome. Friday’s loss to the Leafs was the real kicker. Here’s what we learned. [BSH]

*And then we had last night’s game, which was… really friggin fun, lol. Gotta love this team sometimes eh? RECAP!

*We still get to look ahead to next season, though. And given what we’ve seen from JVR since he came back from injury, we should be very optimistic about what a full season will bring us. [NBC Sports Philly]

*In fact, a lot of you may not have noticed, but James van Riemsdyk has had a very good season this year. [Courier-Post]

*Now that winning games is rather meaningless, perhaps Gord will focus on getting some time in for Hart, testing out Sam Morin, etc. Probably not, but maybe. [NBC Sports Philly]

*Speaking of Gord, there is a growing bit of underlying rumor-speak building up around the idea of his returning as head coach next season. That should… not be the first choice for the Flyers. Or the second, frankly. [Philly.com]

*There is endless talk about how crappy the NHL’s current playoff format is, but does it have any redeeming qualities? Maybe? [Yahoo Sports]

*Gotta say, having your kids play hockey seems like such a nightmare that it is remarkable that anyone does it at all. You people deserve some kind of award. [AP]
