Philadelphia Flyers forward Matt Read sustained an injury in Thursday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Read was administered a hit by Pittsburgh forward Chris Kunitz and was forced to leave the game. During the second period, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced that Read had sustained an upper-body injury and would not be able to return in the contest.
As of Thursday morning, the Flyers have yet to update Read’s status.
The team is scheduled to play in the tail-end of a back-to-back on Thursday night when they host the Florida Panthers at Wells Fargo Center.
If Read is unable to play, it could prove to be a lucky break for the Panthers. In the two previous meetings between the clubs this season, Read has compiled four goals and has accumulated the most points against the team of any other player on the Flyers.
Entering Thursday night, Read currently leads the Flyers with seven goals and is fourth on the team in total points with 13.
