Our guess is that Marcel Noebels didn’t report to the Reading Royals of the ECHL when assigned there late last week, and now he’s been placed on unconditional waivers by the Flyers organization, according to TVA Sports.
Unconditional waivers means that the organization is looking to terminate his contract, so Noebels, drafted in the 4th round of the 2011 draft by the Flyers, will no longer be a member of the Flyers. Most importantly, his contract will no longer count against the Flyers’ 50 contract limit. With Noebels off the books, they have 48 active contracts (not taking slide-rule players into account).
Noebels was not necessarily highly touted when he entered the organization, but we thought that there might be an NHL chance there for him. He had a strong junior career in the WHL with Seattle and put together a nice performance for the German team at the World Junior Championship in 2011-12. His pro career has been less than stellar, however, with just 34 total points registered in 95 games across two seasons with the Adirondack Phantoms.
He didn’t make the Phantoms roster in training camp this year, and that’s the end of that. Bon voyage, Marcel.
