Watch the whole thing, too. It’s from 1995 when Eric Lindros won the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s most valuable player, and it’s so good that I totally forgot that Neil friggin’ Young was one of the dudes who presented the award to 88.
Given all that crap that went on with Lindros towards the end of his tenure in Philadelphia, it can be easy to forget how passionate he was about the city and the Flyers. But this speech lays it all on the line, from his kinds words about Ed Snider and Bob Clarke to him tearing up when talking about how Flyers fans supported the team through the lean years of the early 1990s.
“We’re gonna do it,” he said. They got so close in 1997, and Lindros never did do it. But I don’t think we should hold that against him.
