Jimmy The Kid blasts 101 mph shot as Team Orange tops Team White in Skills Competition

PHILADELPHIA — James van Riemsdyk was the big story at the Wells Fargo Center, stealing the show at the Flyers’ 2010 Skills Competition by blasting a 100-plus mile per hour shot during the hardest shot event. Aside from that, JVR beat Nikolay Zherdev in the puck control relay and was a key cog in the road to victory for Team Orange.

Over 11,000 fans — enough to fill the lower bowl — were on hand for the event, which absolutely flew by in just under an hour. The final score was 10-8 in favor of the Orange side. Team White had a chance to come out on top in the final round of the final event, the breakaway relay, after Michael Leighton shut out the final six attempts from the Orange side. Sergei Bobrovsky was up to the task for his side, though, shutting out the final six attempts from Team White to seal the deal.

Some other highlights:

– After falling on a turn during the one-on-one puck control relay, Nikolay Zherdev got up, picked up the puck and playfully shot it at van Riemsdyk, his competitor, as No. 21 crossed the finish line. Pretty hilarious.

Andrej Meszaros‘ first goal in the breakaway relay was a dazzler — between the legs and everything. Hopefully we can get video of that at some point, because it was awesome.

Claude Giroux didn’t score a goal in the breakaway shootout, only because he was trying out a few new moves. For the fans, right?
