Jaromir Jagr will depress you, make you smile simultaneously

Jaromir Jagr might not play for the Philadelphia Flyers again. Man, that sucks. The guy really, truly does love it here. This quote from Jags after last night’s loss will make you sad, but it makes you sad in that happy sort of way. If that doesn’t make any sense to you, keep reading. You’ll get it.

“Oh, I don’t know,” he said when asked if there’s more hockey in his future. “I don’t know what’s gonna happen. It doesn’t really matter what’s gonna happen.

“I have to say, thanks for the support from the fans. I love everyone on this team. That was probably the most enjoyable year I’ve ever had. I’ve won some cups, I’ve won some trophies, but I loved this year. From the organization to the last player on the team, and the fans. They were so nice to me. I hate to finish it right now. That’s the worst feeling. You finish the whole story, the whole year. That’s a sad day, today for me. I wanna cry right now.”

Of course, if Jagr does decide to come back to hockey for another season, it’ll be a business decision that will keep him in Philadelphia or not. Is he worth another $3 million (or so) again next season? Will he want that much money? Will he get a larger offer from another team?

Tough to say on all of the above questions. While it’s still almost impossible to knock him off the puck even at 40 years of age, and while he certainly still possesses the vision and playmaking ability that will one day earn him a spot in the Hall of Fame, there’s zero hiding the fact that he looked a bit behind the game at times in these playoffs and late in the year.

What do you think? Should the Flyers bring Jagr back for another go next year?
