Jakub Voracek has a contract. The restricted free agent winger, picked up by the Flyers from Columbus in the Jeff Carter trade, has signed a one year deal worth $2.25 million, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. That would be exactly what our Eric T. predicted earlier this week.
Defenseman Andreas Lilja has also signed a deal with the team. TSN reports that it’s a three year $1.7 million deal, while Anthony SanFilippo was told that it’s a one year deal “around” $750,000. We’ll see. It’s a 35+ contract so one year is highly preferred.
He fills in that bottom spot on the defense left void by Sean O’Donnell. I guess he could battle for that spot with Erik Gustafsson and Oskars Bartulis. I asked Casey from Winging It In Motown what to think of Lilja, since I don’t know a ton about him.
He may work well in philly. He’s a guy that can play well when he’s physical but since his serious concussion I think that physical play has died down. He’s a big body and that’s his biggest asset. He’s not the best positionally and you’ll curse his name several times during the season (if he starts) but he does what he can. He got pinned with a shitty defensive partner often in Detroit, either Lebda or Eriksson.
The biggest thing is who he’s paired with. He tends to falter when he’s the “lead” guy on a pairing.
Well, Lilja automatically would be the No. 6 defenseman in Philly, so I guess we don’t have to worry about that too much.
