Paul Holmgren said yesterday that the signing of Jakub Voracek would be just a “matter of time.” By “time” he apparently meant “less than a day,” as multiple reports have confirmed that Voracek has signed a four-year, $17 million contract with the club. The news was first reported by iSport.cz in the Czech Republic and first confirmed in North America by SB Nation Philly’s Dave Strehle.
Voracek earned $2.25 million last season on a one-year deal with the Flyers, so he’ll be getting a $2 million raise per season on this new deal. The Flyers expect him to replace Jaromir Jagr on the top line alongside Claude Giroux this season, and $4.25 million just under the $4.55 million Jagr got on his one-year deal with the Dallas Stars.
A 49-point scorer a year ago, Voracek likely isn’t worth $4.25 million per season based on his career to date, but the expected boost in production by playing with Giroux could make him worth that money, if not more. That’s the hope, at least. In the inflated salary cap world we’re living in this summer, this isn’t a bad deal for Voracek at all.
