Six days off, and then a back-to-back. That makes a lot of sense, huh?
That’s the situation the Flyers are in this Wednesday after losing at home on Tuesday night to the Dallas Stars. They hopped on a plane immediately after the game, flew up to Boston, got some sleep, had an optional morning skate and will be ready to go at 8 p.m. ET at TD Garden.
How to watch: the game is on NBC Sports Network across the United States. You can also watch on NBC Sports’ Live Extra app. Locally, the radio broadcast can be heard on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia and 97.3 FM in South Jersey. A French-language broadcast can be seen on TVA in Canada.
3 things to watch
1. Zac Rinaldo is obviously a storyline. After last night’s game against Dallas in which pest Antoine Roussel pestered the Flyers on shift after shift, fourth liner Ryan White said that they had to be “smarter” against those types of players. Rinaldo is from the exact same mold as Roussel, and it’ll be the first time his ex-teammates play against him. It will be a thing.
2. Patrice Bergeron is one of the best defensive centers in hockey, if not the best. He has routinely shut down the Flyers’ top unit of Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek over the years, and that’s an extremely important match up to win. The good news: Bergeron might miss the game with some personal stuff. He wasn’t at Boston’s morning skate and we’ll know at game time if he’s ready to play. If not, Chris Kelly is in his place. (Kelly isn’t all that good.)
3. Michal Neuvirth returns to the Flyers’ net. He still has his shutout streak going after those back-to-back shutouts against Florida and Chicago last week. Is he still hot after a week off? Tuukka Rask hasn’t been very good for Boston in the early going, so the Flyers could certainly win the goalie battle tonight.
