Brian Boucher has been hearing his nickname for 10 years now. It rains down upon him from the rafters of the Wells Fargo Center… or the Wachovia Center… or the First Union Center… or the Spectrum. Or any of the other Flyers home arenas, like the Prudential Center, for example.
While we can all agree that his nickname is a shortened version of his last name, we can’t seem to agree on the spelling. Here at BSH, we tend to stick with B-O-O-S-H, the phonetic spelling. We better be locked into that spelling, at least. We sell a t-shirt with that spelling across the chest.
In other corners of Flyerdom, though, it doesn’t seem so certain that B-O-O-S-H is the spelling. I’ve seen B-O-U-C-H, which obviously would be the literal spelling. I’ve seen B-O-O-C-H, too, which doesn’t seem to make any sense at all.
So, on this hockey-less Sunday, we need to take this to a vote. This will be the official vote, on which all future spellings of Brian Boucher’s nickname will be judged.
How do we spell Brian Boucher’s nickname?
