Happy Thanksgiving from Broad Street Hockey!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday filled with food, friends, family, and a good dose of gluttonous behavior to boot. It’s also a time to give thanks, and recognize what we are all thankful for in life — and, also, the Philadelphia Flyers.

So in the spirit of this glorious holiday, it’s time for some things Flyers related that we’re thankful for — and not thankful for.

Some things we’re thankful for:

Yeo being an assistant coach

Mike Yeo was a terrible head coach, but man he’s sure figured out this whole assistant thing —excelling with the Penguins and now back on the bench running the Flyers’ penalty kill. It’s the third-best unit in the league right now, and boy are we thankful Yeo has this thing turned around.

Our captain, Claude Giroux

Nothing but respect for are true leader, who wears a C despite everything he does being an A++.

Travis Konecny

Not only does TK lead the Flyers in scoring with 23 points in 24 games, he’s got some of the best flow on the squad and helps dudes kick cancer’s ass.

Hart, Carter

Doo doo doo doo doo doo.

Elliott, Brian —the BAMF himself

Look, I’ll be the first to admit I was ready to hail the man an Uber to the glue factory, but turns out he’s got some tread left on the tires after all!

Penalty kill

Seriously though a top-five penalty kill? In this economy?

Ivan Provorov

The Flyers’ forward MVP is very clearly either Sean Couturier or Travis Konecny, but on defense it’s not even a conversation as Provorov has been lights out to start the season. He’s shutting down opponents’ top lines and filling the net at the other end and looking like the true bona-fide No. 1 defenseman the Flyers have been desperate for since the Chris Pronger injury.

Lindblom, Oskar

Far from a grouch, this Oskar is old reliable for Alain Vigneault and his staff. Responsible in all three zones and a guy other teammates vouch to get more shifts with. Also, the hair.  My God, the beautiful locks.

Gritty

Real NHL coaching staff!

Saw a stat the other day that the Flyers’ coaching staff has combined to coach something like 469 trillion games or something like that. Seriously that was the stat. It’s almost like hiring college coaches is bad! Should have taken the hint from the Eagles that college coaches stink (screw you, Dave!).

Another very, very serious note: Alain Vigneault, Michel Therrien, and Yeo are doing a phenomenal job this season. Also, Ian Laperriere is there.

Ivan Provorov

Seriously he’s so damn good.

Morgan Frost

He’s new and fun and the Flyers are playing the kids and it’s actually working! Frost has found a little home here with Giroux and let me tell you that little 1-2 punch is a hot spicy meatball here gang.

Sean Couturier

Man, just imagine if this dude actually was a top-20 center…then the Flyers would really be cooking with gas.

Some things we aren’t thankful for:

Kevin Hayes’ contract!

JVR’s shooting percentage (5.9%)

Claude Giroux on the right side on the power play

Justin Braun anywhere but the penalty kill!

Actually just Justin Braun

Shayne Gostisbehere in the press box

Robert Hagg not in the press box

Samuel Morin’s knee cartilage
