Flyers vs. Rangers: Ray Emery will start Game 3

Steve Mason is still injured. The Flyers goaltender skated again Monday morning in Voorhees but is still feeling the effects of his upper-body injury — can we just call it a concussion yet? — and will not be ready to start or even sit on the bench in Game 3 on Tuesday. Ray Emery will get the nod for the third-straight game.

Given the way Emery played in Game 3, there’s no rush here to get Mason back in the lineup, something Mase himself alluded to Monday.

It’s obviously only been two games, and these percentages can and are probably likely to shift at some point, but Emery has outplayed Henrik Lundqvist in Games 1 and 2, especially at even strength.

His 17-save performance in the second period helped keep the Flyers in the game, and he definitely settled into a groove after the team as a whole had an ugly first 10 minutes or so to start Game 2. We’ll see if it keeps up in Game 3 on Tuesday night.
