The Flyers will play an outdoor game in 2016-17, taking on the Pittsburgh Penguins at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on February 25, 2017.
On Tuesday, the NHL announced plans for its 100th anniversary — which will unfold across the 2017 calendar year — and in announcing those plans gave us the first peek at the logo for the outdoor game.
Apparently, that bridge is the only thing in Pittsburgh worth putting on a logo:
The game will not be branded the Winter Classic, as the other two outdoor games the Flyers have played in were back in 2010 and 2012. Instead, it’s part of the NHL’s ongoing “Stadium Series” of outdoor games.
We’re expecting that the Flyers and Penguins will both wear special uniforms for the outdoor game, in addition to the 50th anniversary uniforms that the Flyers released last month.
