Flyers training camp: Samuel Morin among first cuts

19 hours ago, Paul Holmgren said that while it was a stretch for Samuel Morin to make the Flyers roster this season, that “any time he can spend here is a bonus, to learn from guys, learn what it takes to be a pro.”

Today, the Flyers have cut Morin. He’s going back to juniors as part of the Flyers first round of cuts.

They’re expected to cut their 44 man roster down to 26 or 28 today before heading to Lake Placid for a few days of team building. The rest of that list should be announced by the team at some point today, so stay tuned.

Morin looked good in his short time in Flyers camp, but he’s 18 and no matter how good he looks in a few preseason games, it doesn’t feel good to rush him into a professional experience.

Talk of a nine game look with the Flyers this season was a bit overboard, especially considering one of the biggest knocks against Morin on draft day in June was his relative NHL readiness. He’s still a pretty raw talent and it’s good that he’s going back to Rimouski, even if Holmgren led us to believe last night that he’d be sticking around the team for a bit.
