There’s a new winger in Orange and Black, folks.
Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced Wednesday that the club has signed left winger Luke Rogers to a one-day contract. Rogers, 14, was at the Flyers’ practice facility Wednesday in advance of Flyers Hockey Fights Cancer Night. Salary figures were not disclosed.
Rogers, of Morgansville, N.J., has been assigned No. 98, which has not been worn before in the club’s 51 seasons. The eighth grader is receiving treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at Rutgers Cancer Institute. Luke has recently been cleared to skate on his own albeit without contact.
Flyers Hockey Fights Cancer Night will take place on November 27th at the Wells Fargo Center when the Orange and Black host the Ottawa Senators. Rogers will hang out in the locker room prior to the game against for a special pre-game read of the Flyers’ starting lineup that evening.
There is a connection with Luke and the Flyers, as he skates at the same rink in New Jersey where forward James van Riemsdyk played during his youth days. The Flyers add Luke to the roster as James is set to return from the injured list in the coming days.

We’ll see Luke in Philadelphia again on Nov. 27 for Flyers Hockey Fights Cancer night. The NHL continues the fight against Cancer and has tons of amazing moments as kids get to live out a dream with some of their favorite players and teams, often sharing them through the #HockeyFightsCancer hashtag on social media.
