Flyers release rookie camp schedule and roster; camp to begin on September 6

While we had known that the Flyers’ rookie camp would conclude on September 9, which is when the Flyers and Capitals will take part in their typically-annual rookie game, the rest of the schedule for rookie camp was finally released this afternoon by the Flyers. Camp will begin next Friday, September 6 (only eight days from now!!!!!), and will run through the weekend leading up to the aforementioned rookie game in Arlington, Va.

Even though parts of the official Flyers training camp have been moved to the Wells Fargo Center this season, the rookie camp in its entirety will be at its usual location at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, N.J. All practices held there will be free and open to the public.

In addition, we learned who will be among the rookies at camp. 25 names — 14 forward, eight defensemen, and three goalies — were released, and for the most part, there aren’t any surprises on the list:

Most of the Flyers’ noteworthy recent draft picks that aren’t currently in the NHL will be there, with a few exceptions (Robert Hagg, who’s currently taking part in Modo’s preseason over in the SHL, comes to mind). But there’s a variety of players in there, from the Flyers’ bigger-name prospects (Laughton, Morin, Stolarz) to other guys who spent last season in the organization (Noebels, Konan, Heeter) to other currently unaffiliated players (Harper, Hauf, MacDonald) and more.

Only a very small minority of players out of that group have any sort of chance of playing for the Flyers this year, but in any event it’ll be fun to see how the organization’s young players look in practice.

We’re eight days away from seeing people skating around in Flyers jerseys. Eight days, everyone. The offseason is slowly but surely coming to an end.
