Flyers recall Justin Bailey from the Phantoms

We thought the Flyers may have gotten all of their moves out of their system yesterday, with the recall of Phil Myers and the trade of Dale Weise and Christian Folin, but not so! Chuck Fletcher still had one move left for the weekend, and the Flyers have just announced that they’ve called up forward Justin Bailey from the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

Bailey’s one of the newer faces to the organization, coming in in the trade that sent Taylor Leier to Buffalo, and he’s really hit the ground running. In his first 10 games with his new team, he registered five goals and two primary assists for a total of seven points, as well as a 48.58 CF% (good for a +9.99 RelCF%) at 5-on-5, per Brad’s tracked stats. He’s been thrown into play in all situations, and has held his own and looked dynamic really wherever he’s been put. It’s a strong start to things with his new team, so the call up makes a lot of sense.

And all of that sounds pretty good, right? So, are we going to see him play? Unfortunately, probably not. Based on comments by Fletcher and Scott Gordon yesterday, it sounds like Myers was called up to be the extra defenseman for their trip to Minnesota on Tuesday, so it makes sense that it would be the same situation with Bailey, that he would serve as the 13th forward, in the event that someone gets hurt or sick at the last minute. But hey, maybe he practices well and they keep him around. We’ll just have to wait and see.
