Val-d’Or Foreurs – Nicolas Aube-Kubel, RW
The Foreurs faced off against the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies in game one on Friday night. The Huskies scored two of the first three goals of the game before Val-d’Or scored five unanswered en route to a 6-2 rout of the Huskies. Aube-Kubel scored the first of the game for the Foreurs and added an assist early in the second on the power play. He also picked up two minor penalties in the game, slashing in the first period and roughing at the end of the second.
Game two on Saturday was not as kind to Val-d’Or. The Foreurs fell to the Huskies 8-3. Aube-Kubel did not record any points and once again picked up two minor penalties. Games three and four are tonight and tomorrow in Rouyn-Noranda.
Kelowna Rockets – Tyrell Goulbourne, LW
The Kelowna Rockets have shutout the Tri-City Americans in their first two games, 6-0 and 3-0. Goulbourne picked up an assist and a minor penalty in game one. He was held off the scoresheet in game two, but did show some heart with a fighting major. Goulbourne was playing the puck before getting jumped by Maxwell James. In true Philadelphia fashion Tyrell came right back with a few right hooks of his own.
The top seeded Rockets will go back at it with the Americans tonight and tomorrow in Tri-City.
Blainville-Boisbriand Armada – Danick Martel, C
The Armada and Gatineau Olympiques have traded 4-1 decisions thus far in the series. Martel was all over the place in game one. He scored the lone goal in the loss but was also a minus-4 and had two minor penalties. He won 11 of the 24 faceoffs he took.
Martel continued his hot season in game two, scoring another goal and adding an assist for two points on the night. He did pick up another minor penalty but was a plus-one in the game. He really turned it around in the faceoff dot as well, winning 10 of his 12 draws.
The Armada look to right the ship against the Olympiques this week as they each hold a game in the best of seven series.
Rimouski Oceanic – Samuel Morin, D
Top-seeded Rimouski won a nail biter in game one against Victoriaville. Morin took a penalty with less than 10 minutes remaining in the third and Victoriaville capitalized to tie the game. Fortunately for Morin he did not cost his team as they were able to win 4-3 in overtime.
Morin made up for his mistakes in game two with two assists and a plus-two rating in a 5-3 win. Rimouski will now travel to Victoriaville with a 2-0 series lead.
Calgary Hitmen – Radel Fazleev, LW & Travis Sanheim, D
The Hitmen dropped game one to the seven-seeded Kootenay Ice by a score of 4-3. Fazleev had two clutch assists on Calgary’s first two goals, but it was not enough. Fazleev ended the game with two assists and a plus-one rating while Sanheim had no points and an even plus-minus.
Game two saw much of the same from Fazleev. He assisted on the first goal of the game and the Hitmen’s second goal in the third to tie it up. This was another close game, but the Hitmen prevailed in overtime 3-2. Fazleev added two more assists this game to up his total to four through two games, while Sanheim remained off the scoresheet but did have a plus-one rating.
The second-seeded Hitmen will look to avoid an upset in this now best-of-five series against the Ice.
