Phantoms sweep the weekend series, Sanheim scores his first goal of the season
Cole Bardreau not only got the scoring started on Wednesday against Syracuse, but provided the only goals for the Phantoms. Bardreau’s first goal of the game (3) got LHV on the board and his second goal (4) tied the game at 2-2 midway through the 3rd period. Alex Lyon let up the go-head goal with 2:35 left in regulation. The Crunch scored an empty net SH goal to put the game away in the final minute. Alex Lyon stopped 30 of his 33 shots overall.
The Phantoms channeled their “inner-Flyers” to battle back down 2-0 to win Friday’s contest against Rochester. Travis Sanheim delivered his first goal of the regular season via a breakaway coming out of the penalty box in the first period. LHV followed it up with 3 straight goals in the second from Greg Carey (11), Andy Miele (2, PP) and Chris Connor (5, PP). Alex Lyon was once again in net and earned his 9th victory, stopping 21 of 24.
Saturday’s finale saw the Phantoms take an early lead and never relinquish it. Nicolas Aube-Kubel opened the scoring with his 4th goal of the season less than a minute into the game. Radel Fazleev (2), Jordan Weal (10) and T.J. Brennan (8, PP) all with goals as well. Alex Lyon had his best effort of the week, turning away 25 of 27 shot attempts.
Jordan Weal (C): 1 goal, 1 assist, 8 shots, 2 PIM
2010 3rd Round Pick, 70th overall
Weal added to his team-leading point total with 26 in 23 games. That is just four off the league-lead. His 10 goals are tied for second on the team behind Carey and Colin McDonald, who both have 11.
Nicolas Aube-Kubel (RW): 1 goal, 1 assist, 6 shots
2014 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall
This was Aube-Kubel’s first goal since 11/11 and in that time he’s had a couple healthy scratches. Recently he’s been on LHV’s 2nd line with Weal and Danick Martel that should be paying more dividends on the scoresheet.
Travis Sanheim (D): 1 goal, 7 shots, 2 PIM
2014 1st Round Pick, 17th overall
Obviously a huge weight came off Sanheim’s shoulders with his goal on Friday. The effort to get his first of the season hasn’t been without persistence, as he has 47 shots on goal in 25 games this season. Here is a cute interview after the game.

Make that 14 goals this season for Bunnaman, who is now just 2 away from tying his OHL-high set just last season. His 23 points are tied for 4th on the team.

Good news and bad news. Hart didn’t have a great week, allowing 8 goals in his only 2 games. For some perspective, he hadn’t allowed 8 goals TOTAL in his last 7 games. The good news is those DNP doesn’t mean he is injured, but rather he has joined Team Canada for the WJC camp.

Laberge returns after being sidelined a couple games last week with what I’m assuming were the return of concussion symptoms. He is a talented forward and its a shame to see him miss time. Laberge had a minor scare in Friday’s game where he engaged in a fight, took a tough punch and didn’t return. Thankfully, he was in the lineup on Sunday and scored his 3rd goal of the season. He has 8 points in 12 games.

NCAA Notes: Tanner Laczynski and Merrick Madsen are both off until the last weekend in December. Matej Tomek remains the odd man out at North Dakota, sitting on the bench every game this season.
