Phantoms sweep the weekend series, Sanheim scores his first goal of the season
Cole Bardreau not only got the scoring started on Wednesday against Syracuse, but provided the only goals for the Phantoms. Bardreau’s first goal of the game (3) got LHV on the board and his second goal (4) tied the game at 2-2 midway through the 3rd period. Alex Lyon let up the go-head goal with 2:35 left in regulation. The Crunch scored an empty net SH goal to put the game away in the final minute. Alex Lyon stopped 30 of his 33 shots overall.
The Phantoms channeled their “inner-Flyers” to battle back down 2-0 to win Friday’s contest against Rochester. Travis Sanheim delivered his first goal of the regular season via a breakaway coming out of the penalty box in the first period. LHV followed it up with 3 straight goals in the second from Greg Carey (11), Andy Miele (2, PP) and Chris Connor (5, PP). Alex Lyon was once again in net and earned his 9th victory, stopping 21 of 24.
Saturday’s finale saw the Phantoms take an early lead and never relinquish it. Nicolas Aube-Kubel opened the scoring with his 4th goal of the season less than a minute into the game. Radel Fazleev (2), Jordan Weal (10) and T.J. Brennan (8, PP) all with goals as well. Alex Lyon had his best effort of the week, turning away 25 of 27 shot attempts.
Jordan Weal (C): 1 goal, 1 assist, 8 shots, 2 PIM
2010 3rd Round Pick, 70th overall
Weal added to his team-leading point total with 26 in 23 games. That is just four off the league-lead. His 10 goals are tied for second on the team behind Carey and Colin McDonald, who both have 11.
Nicolas Aube-Kubel (RW): 1 goal, 1 assist, 6 shots
2014 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall
This was Aube-Kubel’s first goal since 11/11 and in that time he’s had a couple healthy scratches. Recently he’s been on LHV’s 2nd line with Weal and Danick Martel that should be paying more dividends on the scoresheet.
Travis Sanheim (D): 1 goal, 7 shots, 2 PIM
2014 1st Round Pick, 17th overall
Obviously a huge weight came off Sanheim’s shoulders with his goal on Friday. The effort to get his first of the season hasn’t been without persistence, as he has 47 shots on goal in 25 games this season. Here is a cute interview after the game.
Notable junior performances this week

Make that 14 goals this season for Bunnaman, who is now just 2 away from tying his OHL-high set just last season. His 23 points are tied for 4th on the team.

Carter Hart (G), Everett Silvertips (WHL)
2016 2nd Round Pick, 48th overall
Good news and bad news. Hart didn’t have a great week, allowing 8 goals in his only 2 games. For some perspective, he hadn’t allowed 8 goals TOTAL in his last 7 games. The good news is those DNP doesn’t mean he is injured, but rather he has joined Team Canada for the WJC camp.
- 12/7 – 4 GA, 16 saves
- 12/9 – 4 GA, 17 saves
- 12/10 – DNP
- 12/11 – DNP/
Carsen Twarynski (LW), Calgary Hitmen (WHL)
2016 3rd Round Pick, 82nd overall
Not a bad week for Twarynski who aside from the first couple weeks of the season has been very consistent. Overall he has 16 points in 27 games, but 15 of those points have come in his last 21 games.
- 12/6 – 1 goal

Samuel Dove-McFalls (C), Saint John Sea Dogs (QMJHL)

Pascal Laberge (RW/C), Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL)
2016 2nd Round Pick, 36th overall
Laberge returns after being sidelined a couple games last week with what I’m assuming were the return of concussion symptoms. He is a talented forward and its a shame to see him miss time. Laberge had a minor scare in Friday’s game where he engaged in a fight, took a tough punch and didn’t return. Thankfully, he was in the lineup on Sunday and scored his 3rd goal of the season. He has 8 points in 12 games.
- 12/8 – 2 assists, 4 shots, 2 PIM, 0 for 1 FOW
- 12/9 – 5 PIM

- 12/10 – 2 GA, 26 saves/
Oskar Lindblom (LW/RW), Brynas IF (SHL)
2014 5th Round Pick, 138th overall
Big news for Lindblom who was named to the Swedish senior national team for the Channel One Cup in Moscow, Russia. His 25 points is 2nd in the SHL, behind 28 year old American, Brock Little.
- 12/9 – 1 shot, 17:49 TOI
- 12/ 10 – 1 assist, 1 shot, 17:33 TOI/
Linus Hogberg (D), Vaxjo Lakers HC (SHL)

- 12/10 – 9:35 TOI/
German Rubtsov (LW/C), Vityaz Podolsk (KHL)
2016 1st Round Pick, 22nd overall
Rubtsov got one game in last week before he shipped off to Team Russia’s WJC training camp. While his TOI slight improved for the 3rd straight game, news is that he is ever closer to joining the QMJHL once the World Junior Championships are over. Alex Appleyard has more details here among other Euro prospect updates.
- 12/8 – 2 PIM, 0 for 3 FOW, 9:38 TOI
- 12/10 – DNP/
Mikhail Vorobyov (C), Salavat Yulaev Ufa (KHL)

Vorobyov was another forward selected to participate for Team Russia in the WJC. His one game this week was a non-factor given he only saw 5 shifts all game.
- 12/8 – 1 shot, 2 PIM, 1 for 2 FOW, 3:53 TOI
- 12/10 – DNP/
Euro Notes: Ivan Fedotov (G) did not get the start in Toros Neftekamsk’s only game this week. David Kase remains sidelined due to a chest injury. Team Czech Republic is hoping Kase is healthy enough to participate for them in the WJC.

Just one game this week for Clarkson as they battled against St. Lawrence. The 22 year old Amorosa still sits at 4 points in 10 games this season.
- 12/9 – 2 shots 2 PIM/
NCAA Notes: Tanner Laczynski and Merrick Madsen are both off until the last weekend in December. Matej Tomek remains the odd man out at North Dakota, sitting on the bench every game this season. Cooper Marody is out of the University of Michigan lineup until he returns from academic ineligibility next spring.
