With the 68th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, the Flyers selected center Nick Cousins from Sault Ste. Marie. Cousins is coming off a point per game season in the OHL, where he scored 68 points in 68 games.
Cousins made Team Canada’s under-18 team, and scored between five and eight points in 7 games (conflicting reports.) Either way, Cousins is a small center – listed at 5’10” – but he brings a little bit of an edge to his game.
In an interview with Yahoo!’s Neate Sager, Cousins was asked what he had to work on the most:
“Playing both ends of the ice. I put up pretty good numbers [68 points in 68 games for a ninth-place club], but you have to play good defence if you want to play at the next level. So I need to improve on my play in my own and my play without the puck.”
So the Flyers grab a big two-way center in the first round, and a small one-way center in the third. Interesting.
Oh, and his favorite TV show is Jersey Shore.
Flyers next pick is #116.
