Checking out the competition: Ottawa Senators

It’s been a wild couple of days in FlyersLand, but the show must go on. The Ottawa Senators are in town tonight, and that’s fitting given that the Sens might be the one organization currently more dramatically on fire than ours. They have a front office as messy as ours, a penalty kill that’s sometimes just as bad, sometimes worse than ours, and an uncertain future on a number of fronts, not just on the ice. What a fun time to be a hockey fan! We were joined by the wonderful Micah Blake McCurdy of HockeyViz.com to get a little insight into what the Senators look like since our last meeting with the team. We discussed:

  • The recent great play of Matt Duchene, and if the Senators will even attempt to hold onto him – or the other star players that need contracts like Mark Stone
  • Chris Tierney, and if the possibility of a successful future thanks to rookies on cheap contracts playing great hockey is a real one
  • Eugene Melnyk and his insistence on ruining everything he touches
  • Ron Hextall, because we had to/

Tonight’s game starts at 7PM on NBC Sports Philly. Should be interesting to see what the boys look like now that they know things are going to be different. Let’s go Flyers!
