Last night was in many ways a tale of two games, as a mostly uneventful 60 minutes turned into an action-packed overtime and shootout which saw the Flyers come out victorious over the Canadiens at the Bell Centre.
The game was scoreless through 60 minutes due in large part to the outstanding goaltending of Charlie Lindgren and Petr Mrazek. Mrazek (28 saves) earned his first shutout as a Flyer and stopped 5 of 6 shooters in the shootout. Oskar Lindblom was solid in what may have been his “weakest” game thus far and nearly potted his first NHL goal early in the 2nd period as he drove to the net and received a stellar pass from Jake Voracek. And while they didn’t score through 65 minutes of play, the Couturier line dominated once again. Travis Konecny was electric and took control of the overtime session, nearly ending the game with a dazzling spin move into the slot between two Montreal players that resulted in a wrist shot off the post. After Voracek tied the shootout in the 3rd round, Sean Couturier ended the shootout in the 6th round with a laser of a wrist shot off the post and in to the blocker side of Lindgren.
With the win the Flyers have jumped to the top of the Metropolitan Division. They are now 34-19-10 on the season and 10-0-2 over their last 12 games, including six straight victories.
