Bruins pulling out the secret weapons for Game 5

The Boston Bruins and TD Garden announced [last week] that a bronze statue depicting the famous scene of Bobby Orr flying through the air immediately after scoring “The Goal” that clinched the Bruins 1970 Stanley Cup Championship over the St. Louis Blues will be unveiled at a ceremony on May 10th at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Present for the ceremony, which is being held on the 40th anniversary of “The Goal” and the Bruins four-game sweep of the St. Louis Blues to win the Stanley Cup on May 10, 1970, will be Bobby Orr, Bruins Owner, Jeremy Jacobs, Mayor of Boston, Thomas M. Menino, TD Garden President, John Wentzell, the sculptor of the statue, Harry Weber, and Orr’s teammates John Bucyk and Derek Sanderson.

The Flyers organization called on some help from John LeClair and Keith Primeau on Friday night, giving them seats to the game and showing them on the video board at opportune times to pump the crowd. The Bruins will one up them today when the unveil the above statue.

You know all of the people above — well, maybe not the mayor, but the players — will also be in attendance tonight as the Bruins try to eliminate the Flyers from the postseason. I wouldn’t be surprised if Orr dropped the ceremonial first puck, only amping up the Bruins and their fans more.

The Flyers are going to have to weather the storm early tonight if they want to win Game 5. Anything is possible if they get this series back home for a Game 6, but they obviously need this win in Boston before they can think about that. Because of the emotion that will be in that building tonight, the first several minutes of the game could really dictate the way the entire thing will go.
