Jake DeBrusk scored 2:35 into overtime and the Bruins skated away with a 4-3 win over the Flyers on Monday night from Boston. The Flyers have just one more NHL preseason tune-up before an international matchup ahead of their season opener from Prague against the Blackhawks.
Three stars
1. Travis Konecny

Not the hardest goal TK’s ever gonna score, but nice job finding the open ice and going to the net front to pot the tally. He also had a couple huge shot blocks in this one, which are insane given its preseason but kudos to the commitment to grit. Also shoutout to both JVR and Sean Couturier for nice work on this goal, but the nod goes to TK for a couple ridiculous shot blocks in a game that means absolutely nothing.
2. Carsen Twarynski
Another game and another goal for the forward looking to make the club on the depth side. He’s not as sexy as Joel Farabee or Morgan Frost, but he’s been producing in the preseason and the Flyers do have some roster holes in the bottom of the lineup. Interesting to find out who the coaching staff prefers between him and someone like Nicolas Aube-Kubel. Twarynski had a bad shift early with a turnover in his own zone, but was a pest the rest of the way, and obviously found the scoresheet once again to help his cause.
Relentless work by @CTwarynski. pic.twitter.com/amX1Nk6WB2

3. Connor Bunnaman
Hey look there’s no Claude Giroux or Jakub Voracek in this one, so it’s the little guys getting things done with Bunnaman getting a gift goal courtesy of a Bruins defender. Dirty but good still counts in this league and credit the Bun Man for getting a puck to the net and getting something good to happen.
Answering the bell
We talked about how the Flyers need Brian Elliott to be solid and he’s been anything but that so far this preseason, and he didn’t get off to a great start in this one.

That’s a heck of an individual play from Jakub Lauko, sure, but NHL goalies shouldn’t be giving up goals from that angle. We know Carter Hart is pretty good, but goalies that young with massive workloads is a tricky proposition, and if Elliott can’t be solid behind him things could get ugly in the crease. The Bruins’ game-winning goal should serve notice that Elliott really needs to get going, because he just wasn’t good enough again in this one and could be costing the Flyers point in the regular season before long.
We also touched on details in the pregame, as there are now only a few more chances to iron on the nitty gritty before puck drops on the regular season. Giving up a pair of 2-on-1 rushes on the same shift isn’t exactly ideal. The Bruins’ big guns burned the Flyers big-time on this one, and made it look easy in the process. Clean it up, boys.

The Flyers lost, but that’s great content, folks.
