Brian Elliott is the NHL’s Third Star of The Week

Yo! Brian Elliott! After a week that was highly criticized by fans for featuring too many starts by the goaltender not named Carter Hart, Elliott has earned himself a spot of national recognition. Presenting Brian Elliott, NHL’s Third Star of The Week:

Elliott compiled a 3-0-0 record, 2.02 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in four games to lead the Flyers (5-4-1, 11 points) to a trio of victories. He turned aside 33 shots in a 6-2 triumph over the Vegas Golden Knights Oct. 21, made 23 saves in a 4-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks Oct. 24 and stopped 22 pucks in a 7-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Oct. 26. Elliott then denied all 19 shots he faced in a relief effort in a 5-3 loss to the New York Islanders Oct. 27. The 34-year-old Newmarket, Ont., native has made six total appearances this season, going 3-1-0 with a 2.28 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.

I am truly pleased that Elliott is being recognized for his hard work, although I have to say, I wish we weren’t leaning on him quite as much. All of that being said, this team needs a strong backstop and he is providing that in a week where Hart has been struggling to find a rhythm.

Elliott, quintessential hockey player, had this to say after the 7-4 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets, “I thought the guys really stuck with it and played to our strengths and I think I don’t know if I deserve that win so much, but the guys definitely did and they pulled it out for me”. What a great team player, I bet he’s wonderful in the locker room.

Congrats BAMFBE!
